Some Common Pregnancy Complications
Gestational diabetes: This is a type of diabetes that occurs during pregnancy & affects the body's ability to regulate blood sugar levels.
Preeclampsia: This is a condition that can occur after the 20th week of pregnancy & is characterized by high blood pressure & damage to organs such as the liver & kidneys.
Miscarriage: A miscarriage is the loss of a pregnancy before the 20th week.
Preterm labor: This is when a woman goes into labor before the 37th week of pregnancy.
Placenta previa: This is a condition where the placenta covers the cervix, making vaginal delivery difficult or impossible.
Ectopic pregnancy: This is when a fertilized egg implants outside of the uterus, most commonly in the fallopian tube.
Low birth weight: This is when a baby is born weighing less than 5 pounds, 8 ounces.
